And still the journey continues... Broken Boy Chronicles part III

And you would think that after all this time of having no new posts or any new updates, my boring life just continued onwards with nothing exciting to tell.
Not so at all!! Broken Boy is still broken and we are still on the journey of trying to adjust around a child with a broken limb.

A few weeks back we went in for a cast change. We went from the large cast, from the toes to the hip, to a walking cast which is from below the knee cap and to the toes. His ankle was straighten  to a more flexed position so he could walk better. The primary reason for this is so the knee can get a chance to adjust and get used to some pressure and same with the ankle. It is a slow progression to walking without a cast.

It may look like he is about to kick Margo's head off
but that  was not the case!
We were lucky to get some really sweet people at the Orthopaedic clinic at ACH. Margo was the sweetest lady who removed the old cast and put on the new one. Broken Boy was super sweet and so very patient. He asked all the right questions and was ever so helpful.

Walking was interesting the first few days. At first he refused to walk at all! I was actually getting concerned. But considering that he had been off his leg for more than 5 weeks, the knee was quite stiff and as was the foot. My son is fearless! So it was honestly tough seeing him so hesitant and reluctant to do something that so simple. After a week or so of feeling his way around and a lot of encouragement from his brothers, he took his first few steps by himself.
Broken Boy being very sweet with Margo

Go away old cast
Asking and listening, nice when they do that for people
 who are not parenting them
Now with the steps comes a little more independence, which was very nice for me....well because we all know that this whole journey was about ME!! ... (just kidding..it is only a little about me...) :-) . It was nice to not run up and down all the time and it was really nice to get back into our routine. His doctor encouraged us to send him back to school and so off he went to preschool. It was adorable the attention he got from his friends and they were all very curious as to what kind of "break dance" he did....LOL!!

We still have to be super careful with his leg still because he seems to think that he is cured and this new cast is his forever. Boy, will be disappointed next week!! The cast should come off next week and then a life full of "please don't break your leg, ever!!"
This is from the last time we went to the clinic. As you can see
there is a drastic change.
This is the x-ray from the day of the fracture.
It was NASTY!!!
